The Islamic University of Kenya (IUK) officially launched the first session of its much-anticipated sustainability campaign, #IUKGreenDrive2025, on Friday with great enthusiasm and participation. The event marked the beginning of a series of initiatives aimed at promoting environmental responsibility, aligning with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Guests were welcomed warmly, setting a positive and inclusive tone for the day. The session began with a keynote address by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Bilal Waqar, who reaffirmed IUK’s commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable future through collaborative efforts. A highlight of the day was an inspiring talk by Dr. Said Ragaeh, who spoke passionately about the power of individuals to become agents of change in their communities and beyond. His message resonated strongly with attendees, reinforcing the importance of personal responsibility in tackling environmental challenges. Adding energy and excitement to the program, well-known influencer Dulla Mulla introduced fellow influencers present at the event. Their involvement underscored the importance of using digital platforms and youth voices to amplify the message of sustainability. The IUK team also took the opportunity to emphasize the significance of the initiative, showcasing the university’s eco-conscious infrastructure and the steps already being taken toward a more sustainable campus. As the day concluded, a clear message emerged: Together, we are driving change — for people, planet, and future generations. The #IUKGreenDrive2025 is not just an event; it is a movement—one that positions IUK as a leader in environmental advocacy within the academic community.
